This page describes the steps necessary to transfer ORA from one computer to another. Follow these steps if you get a new PC, or you want to use ORA on your laptop PC but it is currently installed on your desktop PC, etc.

Please read all the instructions before you start.
Prerequisites
To perform the following steps, you may need to download files from the web and/or transfer files from one PC to another. To download files, you will need an Internet connection and browser program. If the new PC does not have an Internet connection, you'll have to download to a PC with an Internet connection and transfer files from that PC to the new PC.
You can transfer files between PCs several ways. A straight-forward method is to copy files via a USB flash drive (AKA "thumb drive").
Terminology
The instructions refer to the ORA folder. That folder is a subfolder of the "Documents" folder, the special folder in Windows where Microsoft encourages users to store their personal data files.
These instructions refer to an old PC and a new PC. The old PC is where ORA is installed now, and the new PC is where you want to install it next. The actual age of the PCs doesn't matter.
Steps
- Export your current ORA data.
On the old PC, open your browser and navigate to the OraSettings page. Use the [Export Settings...] button to export your ORA data to a file. By default, the file will be saved to your Documents\ORA\Settings folder in a file with the extension ".oraSettings". Copy that file to a thumb drive.
- Install ORA on the new PC.
On the new PC, follow the directions on the Installation Instructions page to install both OraHost and OraExtension.
- Import your current ORA data.
On the new PC, insert the thumb drive that contains the ".oraSettings" file you created in step #1. Copy the file to your Documents\ORA\Settings folder.
Open your browser and navigate to the OraSettings page. Use the [Import Settings...] button to import your ORA data from the ".oraSettings" file.
After performing the steps above, you will be able to run ORA on your new PC.
Multiple PCs
ORA does not synchronize collection settings, record status, or any other data across PCs.
It's best to use ORA on one PC only. If you want to use ORA on a different PC temporarily, such as using ORA on a desktop PC at home but using ORA on a laptop PC when you are traveling:
- On the desktop PC, export your current ORA data and save the .oraSettings file to a thumb drive.
- On the laptop PC, copy the .oraSettings file from the thumb drive to your Documents\ORASettings folder.
- On the laptop PC, import the .oraSettings file.
Reverse the steps above when you return home and you want to move your ORA data from the laptop PC to the desktop PC.
The procedure above will work for any two PCs, i.e., it is not limited to moving ORA data back and forth between a desktop PC and a laptop PC. Any two PCs can be manually—albeit temporarily—synchronized in this way.
